Hoodia Gordonii is a variety of cactus that has been known to suppress appetite in the indigenous population that first discovered it. Since then it has been used in many diet and weight loss products and is championed as an all natural supplement that has had great results. However just because it is natural doesn’t necessarily mean that there are no side effects. What are the side effects of Hoodia Gordonii , if any, and how should you use the product ?

There are no documented side effects of Hoodia Gordonii and no anecdotal evidence of any side effects. The most encouraging aspect of Hoodia diet pills is that they don’t cause some of the common side effects associated with other weight loss supplements. Thus, things like dizziness, trembling or a racing heart have not been noted when taking Hoodia Gordonii. This has to be qualified by the fact that there is little clinical research into the side effects of Hoodia. More research continues into hoodia and the active ingredient P57. It is hoped that more research will shed more light on the complete effects that the supplement has on the body.

Potential Hoodia Gordonii Side Effects

Some people may experience an upset stomach when they first start taking hoodia supplements. This side effect has not been studied and until more information is made available, it can only be said that some people have reported an upset stomach when first taking the natural supplement.

A former researcher at Pfizer, named Jasjit Bindra, indicated that Hoodia might produce some negative effects to the liver. In response to this, some physicians believe that if Hoodia does affect liver function, then it is possible that it may interact with some prescribed medications. No studies have been done to confirm this claim.

The way that hoodia works is that it leads the brain into thinking that there is enough blood sugar in the body and for a diabetic person, this could be harmful if their blood sugar levels dropped too far while taking the hoodia. A diabetic person would not be able to respond to their body’s hunger signals because the hoodia suppresses hunger signs.

Since Hoodia suppresses signs of thirst, a person may not drink enough water even though their body needs the water and other fluids. This would be dangerous for diabetics since they need to drink plenty of fluids for their health. While taking the supplement, the best thing to do would be to continue a healthy intake of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty.

Your metabolism will slow down if your body is not getting enough calories, which means that you will burn calories off slowly. Hoodia could cause your metabolism to slow down if you take too much hoodia. You want to keep a faster metabolism so you can drop the weight easier so always take the hoodia according to the manufacturer’s directions.

Pregnant and nursing women should not take hoodia because the side effects for women in these conditions are unknown so it is better to be on the safe side in these situations.

If you have no other illnesses or you are not pregnant it seems that Hoodia Gordonii will help you to lose weight. Of course you should follow the guidelines in terms of dosage and when to take the supplement. If you have another illness, such as diabetes, then you should consult your Doctor about taking Hoodia. The same advice applies for people that are taking regular medication. The side effects of Hoodia Gordonii could impact on the ability of this medicine to work.
